As stated in the Paris Agreement, sales of electric vehicles are growing rapidly to promote net zero carbon emissions. A new analysis reveals that the electric vehicle sector is the only area among the 42 indicators evaluated that is expected to achieve the 2030 agreed upon goals.

Electric vehicles are the only bright spot in many fields such as electricity, construction, industry, transportation, food, and agriculture that can promote keeping the global warming limit within 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit). These sectors together account for approximately 85% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

The 2023 Climate Action Status Report provides a feasible approach to limit climate change by 2030 and 2050. The report warns that "electric vehicles must quickly replace internal combustion (ICE) engines."

The report points out that "although the transformation of accelerated modes has been proven challenging, the world has made significant progress in electrification of existing transportation forms." The goal is for electric vehicles to account for 75% -95% of the total sales of light vehicles by 2030 and 100% by 2035.
